J K Rowling was beaten only by Oprah Winfrey
J K Rowling's billion-dollar fortune has made her the second richest woman in show business and the only British name on a Top 20 list complied by Forbes magazine.
The Harry Potter author, said to be worth £510 million, or $1 billion, was beaten only by Oprah Winfrey's £760 million fortune in Forbe's list of the richest women in entertainment.
She saw off competition from Martha Stewart, the disgraced "domestic goddess" at number three with £325 million, and Madonna, whose £165million fortune places her in fourth. Joanne Rowling, 41, who wrote her first novel whilst unemployed and living on state benefits with her daughter in Edinburgh, became the first US billionaire to make her money via books in 2004. LINK.
