JK ROWLING TO JUDGE: "ARE WE THE OWNERS OF OUR OWN WORK?"
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)
The best-selling British author returned to the witness stand and told a judge that if he allows the fan-written lexicon to be published, it will clear the way for countless rip-offs of her books, as well as the work of other popular authors.
"I believe the flood gates will open," Rowling said, her voice rising. "Are we the owners of our own work?" [...]

HARRY POTTER GOES TO COURT?
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)

WILL JK ROWLING HAVE TO APPEAR IN COURT?

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)
The notoriously shy author is ready to testify herself to protect her ownership of Harry Potter against RDR Books, an independent American publisher, next month.
A US court is to decide whether she can block the publication of an unauthorised encyclopaedia of the wizarding world that she created.
Rowling and Warner Bros, the Hollywood studio behind the epic film adaptations of the Hogwarts adventures, are taking legal action to stop RDR from profiting from a Harry Potter Lexicon, a 400-page guide to the Potter books and movies.
Accusing the unauthorised book of lifting 2,034 of its 2,437 entries straight from her work, Rowling condemned the Lexicon as “a Harry Potter ‘rip-off’ . . . [that] interferes with my rights as a creator and copyright holder”.
She noted that RDR’s attempt “to co-opt my work for financial gain” was out of keeping with the spirit of the Potter stories, which are “full of moral choices and ethical dilemmas”.
She claims that the RDR book not only infringes her copyright but undermines her own planned lexicon. As she will donate its royalties to charity, “the losers in such a situation would be the charities that I hope, eventually, to benefit”. [...]

A YEAR IN THE LIFE OF JK ROWLING BY JAMES RUNCIE
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)
This film has private and exclusive access to a full year in her life: the year in which she completes the literary phenomenon that is Harry Potter, providing an intimate portrait of this very private person.
It includes interviews with Rowling as it follows her every step of the way as her new book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, is finished, published and launched around the world.
The programme has gained unprecedented access to film Rowling writing the final lines of the epic Harry Potter story. We see the book’s delivery in a locked suitcase to her agent at Heathrow Airport gaining a sense of the incredible secrecy leading up to the day of the worldwide release on July 21, 2007.
The film takes J.K. Rowling back to her childhood home, and to her old flat where she completed the first book of the Harry Potter series. The film also features her husband and sister talking about their life with Jo, and ends with her starting work on a new book and contemplating ‘life after Harry’. [...]

HOW LORD VOLDERMORT RETRIEVED HIS WAND?
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)
How did Lord Voldermort get his wand back after his first attempt to kill Harry Potter failed? As you know Voldemort arrived at the house of Lily Potter and James Potter, and killed them. Then he turned onto Harry Potter. For reasons unknown the Avada Kedavra curse could not touch the boy and rebounded upon You-Know-Who.
Instead of killing the Dark Lord, You-Know-Who was reduced to a weak spirit, with no powers left. Horrified, You-Know-Who fled far away.
It seems he would have lost his wand when the Avada Kedavra curse rebounded and nearly killed him.

WAS DUMBLEDORE IN LOVE?
Harry Potter fans, the rumors are true: Albus Dumbledore, master wizard and Headmaster of Hogwarts, is gay. J.K. Rowling, author of the mega-selling fantasy series that ended last summer, outed the beloved character Friday night while appearing before a full house at Carnegie Hall.
After reading briefly from the final book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," she took questions from audience members.
She was asked by one young fan whether Dumbledore finds "true love."
"Dumbledore is gay," the author responded to gasps and applause.
She then explained that Dumbledore was smitten with rival Gellert Grindelwald, whom he defeated long ago in a battle between good and bad wizards. "Falling in love can blind us to an extent," Rowling said of Dumbledore's feelings, adding that Dumbledore was "horribly, terribly let down." [...]

A REVIEW ON BOOK 7 OF THE HARRY POTTER SERIES
Before the release of the seventh and last book of the Harry Potter series, I re-read all the preceding volumes. Throughout, I followed how the author developed her grand theme of Right vs Wrong, the strong vs the weak and the evils of the misuse of power. How was Rowling to end this series? Obviously, the Apocalypse was at hand, and the heroic struggle between Harry Potter and the evil Voldemort would be the climax of the series. While we waited for the last book, rumors abounded. Fake spoilers floated over the internet like the soul-sucking Dementors, threatening to extinguish the enjoyment people would get from this final volume. So, no spoilers from this reviewer. All I will say is that "Deathly Hallows" lived up to my expectations and in fact, ended pretty much as I imagined it would. Rowling keeps true to her theme right to the end and to her artistic vision as well. There is plenty of action right from the get-go. This is by far the most exciting of the seven books, with duels, battles, fights, daring escapes and amazing twists of fortune. There are plenty of surprises and also many reasons to weep. The action sometimes is non-stop, but from time to time, there are welcome respites in the action, times for moments of tenderness or friendship between surprising pairings of characters. The sub-theme of the redeptive power of Love is evident in these idylls. J. K. Rowling is a master writer who has created an amazing work of art with the Harry Potter series and just as any master craftsman, she has chosen the perfect finish for a fine series of books. I look forward to new series with entire new worlds or...perhaps this is really the end. Some authors do write themselves out when they've said their say. I don't know. But I do know this author is one I enjoy reading and I hope we have many more new adventures to discover from her pen. Bravo! Joanna Daneman.Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)

HARRY POTTER BOOK EIGHT?
But sadly for fans of the series, the book has absolutely nothing to do with JK Rowling and everything to do with a gang of enterprising Chinese conmen.
For the equivalent of just £1, residents of Shanghai can pick up a copy of Harry Potter And The Chinese Empire. The novel blends Hogwarts characters, a bit of JRR Tolkien, and sheer imagination to create the impression it is a genuine Potter novel.
Rowling's ever-busy team of lawyers are already on the case, planning cases in local courts and talking to the national authorities about having the bogus Potter novels taken off the streets. [...]

JK ROWLING TELLS ALL
Rowling shared with fans, many of whom said they'd read the final book several times in the last week, where she imagines their favorite characters went after the series' conclusion.
SPOILER ALERT: Those who do not wish to know what happens to the characters after the book ends should stop reading here.
Rowling said the world was a sunnier, happier place after the seventh book and the death of Voldemort.
Harry Potter, who always voiced a desire to become an Auror, or someone who fights dark wizards, was named head of the Auror Department under the new wizarding government headed by his friend and ally, Kingsley Shacklebolt.
His wife, Ginny Weasley, stuck with her athletic career, playing for the Holyhead Harpies, the all-female Quidditch team. Eventually, Ginny left the team to raise their three children — James, Albus and Lily — while writing as the senior Quidditch correspondent for the wizarding newspaper, the Daily Prophet.
Harry's best friend Ron Weasley joined his brother, George, as a partner at their successful joke shop, Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. Hermione Granger, Ron's wife and the third person of the series' dark wizard fighting trio, furthered the rights of subjugated creatures, such as house elves, in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures before joining the magical law enforcement squad. The couple had two children — Rose and Hugo.
Luna Lovegood, Harry's airily distracted friend with a love for imaginary animals who joins the fight against Voldemort in the Order of the Phoenix, becomes a famous wizarding naturalist who eventually marries the grandson of Newt Scamander, author of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."
And what Muggle, or non-wizard, song would have been played at the funeral of Albus Dumbledore, the most brilliant and talented wizard the world had ever known?
"Surely 'I Did It My Way' by Frank Sinatra," Rowling told her fans, referring to the song "My Way," written by Paul Anka but popularized by Sinatra, among other singers.
As the chat wrapped up, Rowling thanked readers for their loyalty to the series.
"What can I say? Thank you so much for sticking with me, and with Harry, for so long. You have made this an incredible journey for Harry's author." [..read more..]Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)

BYE-BYE HARRY POTTER

It is the richest going-away party in history.
"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," the seventh and final volume of J.K. Rowling's all-conquering fantasy series, sold a mountainous 8.3 million copies in its first 24 hours on sale in the United States, according to Scholastic Inc.
No other book, not even any of the six previous Potters, has been so desired, so quickly. "Deathly Hallows" averaged more than 300,000 copies in sales per hour — more than 5,000 a minute. The $34.99 book, even allowing for discounts, generated far more revenue than the opening weekend of the latest Potter movie, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," which came out July 10.
"The excitement, anticipation, and just plain hysteria that came over the entire country this weekend was a bit like the Beatles' first visit to the U.S.," Scholastic president Lisa Holton said in a statement Sunday. [..read more..]Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)

JK ROWLINGS PLEA FOR SANITY
Within hours you will know what happens to Harry, Ron, Hermione and the rest in their final adventure. All the secrets I have been carrying around for so long will be yours, too, and those who guessed correctly will be vindicated, and those who guessed wrongly will not. I hope, you will not be too disappointed! As for me, I feel a heady mixture of excitement, nerves and relief. 'Deathly Hallows' remains my favourite of the series, even after several re-reads; I cannot wait to share it with the readers who have stuck with me through six previous books.
We are almost there! As launch night looms, let's all, please, ignore the misinformation popping up on the the web and in the press on the plot of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I'd like to ask everyone who calls themselves a Potter fan to help preserve the secrecy of the plot for all those who are looking forward to reading the book at the same time on publication day. In a very short time you will know EVERYTHING!
It is sad that some people are so ruled by greed and profit.
Everyone has a take on what went wrong and how ineffective the $20 million dollars was in preserving the secret of Harry Potter.
Seth Godin the internet guru thinks that:
The act of printing, storing and shipping millions of books takes too long for a secret to ever be in a book again.
My solution? A hybrid. Publish the first edition of the book without the last three chapters.
The idea is to then have the final three chapters online. I am sorry to disappoint you Seth but dishonest people could get around that too.
All you would need is some spoof site or mirror site declaring to have hacked the Harry Potter site, etc. All the security measures and such involved would bring that end-of-book-website to a crawl and crash as the million of readers tune in at once.
No, I am afraid no solution would be enough. Except to have people come to their sense and forgo their greed and learn that some things ARE worth waiting for indeed.

HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX IN IMAX

I just saw the movie, two thumbs up and more the David Yates directed movie is probably the best Harry Potter movie to date.
The special effects the acting, etc everything was just clicking on all cylinders and the two hours felt like just fifteen minutes.
The IMAX experience added to the movie and did not distract in anyway.
Well done!
